Arrest made, property recovered!
The information below is the result of the OUTSTANDING WORK OF PCT 5 CONSTABLES AND THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT. PLEASE NEVER FORGET TO THANK THEM.
As a result of an arrest made by Pct 5 Constable on Friday August the 20th, and a continual investigation by HPD an arrest has been made in the last 24 hours by HPD and a significant amount of property has been recovered. HPD investigations are continuing and it is anticipated that numerous burglaries will be cleared up.
IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO NOTE THE BREAK IN THIS CASE RESULTED FROM AN OBSERVANT RESIDENT OF WALNUT BEND WHO SAW A SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUAL AND CALLED THE INFORMATION INTO PCT 5.
MORE INFORMATION WILL BE RELEASED WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.
In another matter, HPD and Constables arrested a suspect responsible for mail thefts over the past several months. Postal authorities are now involved (this is a serious federal matter).

Observant Walnut Bend Resident Calls Constable, Leads to Arrest
Chalk One Up For The Good Guys!
On August 20, 2010 at about 12:30 pm in the 10700 block Of Sugar Hill a black male broke into a car and stole a purse. A resident on a different street observed a black male riding a bicycle that looked very suspicious. He was looking up and down driveways, and because of all the home break in as well as burglary to motor vehicles, he called the constable. Constables stopped the subject, questioned him and ultimately arrested the individual for stealing the purse.
As noted countless times in the past, observant residents willing to get involved will ultimately help reduce and or stop the problems we have been facing.
WHEN IN DOUBT PHONE IT IN!
Call the constable at 281-463-6666 or 911 to report all suspicious activities.
This information was received from Paul Faucher Security Director Walnut Bend.

As we are all aware, crime in the Southwest part of Houston is a major concern for everyone. As the Director of Security for the LIA, I take this position very seriously as Lakeside is also my home. As the alternate delegate for the Briar Forest Super Neighborhood representing the LIA, I assist the primary delegate with matters that concern the Lakeside Neighborhoods. I attended the August 17, 2010 monthly meeting as I suspected Security would be a hot topic of discussion. I would like to share a little of what I learned from that meeting.
Some of you may have heard rumors of a possible HPD store front location in the Food town shopping center. This has been discussed over the last two months at the BFSN meetings. At this point in time, the current HPD Chief of Police has not put his blessing on this project. One of the reasons given is the lack of manpower. While it might be nice to have one, I would just as soon see the officers who would have to man the store front out on the streets pounding the beat. As information becomes available on this topic I will pass it on.
The crime in SW Houston has really gotten the attention of the HPD Chief of Police. So much so, he has committed additional officers and resources for the next 90 days to our area. While we might not see them all, HPD will have marked units, unmarked units, narcotics units and task force units out and about. These additional units on top of what additional units Precinct 5 constables Department has put on the streets should be a major help. The cooperation between HPD and the PCT 5 constables department has been wonderful and headway is being made. If you have noticed, the last couple of e-mail alerts I have sent out contained good news. While we have yet to catch the burglars in our area, local law enforcement has taken quite a few bad guys off the street due to routine traffic stops, investigations etc. I can tell you, HPD and Pct 5 Constables do have some very good leads on the burglars, and are actively following up with every one of them.
Even with all the additional manpower on the streets, it is no substitute for alert residents. In addition to the normal traffic of solicitors in the neighborhood, there are people who may be posing as utility workers wanting to gain access to your property. Under no circumstances should you allow any stranger into your home regardless of the story they are telling you. If they truly are from one of our utility companies, they will have company issued ID. WHEN IN DOUBT PHONE IT IN.
Have you heard of operation West Side Success? While I don’t understand every aspect of every project, the one aspect I did understand is local businesses working together with local civic leaders and local law enforcement to combat crime in our area. One of the ideas they are looking at is possibly installing cameras on the business owners property which would record activity in real time. The Westchase business district currently uses trailer mounted cameras in their parking lots and the impact on crime because of them has dropped dramatically. The leaders of Operation West Side Success and the Briar Forest Super Neighborhood board did approach our city leaders about installing this same type of camera at the intersection of Wilcrest and Briar Forest, but due to privacy concerns this most likely will not pan out. Once again, more on this topic as information becomes available.

HPD Arrests
At about 11am Friday, August 13, an individual who robbed O’Reilly Auto Parts, one block east of Wilcrest at Briar Forest, was apprehended by HPD.
There were also several separate arrests by Constables as follows:
(1) At 11:30am a suspicious person was stopped and arrested in the 11900 block of Waldemar.
(2) At 7:30 pm in the 11400 block of Overbrook in Village West a neighbor called in information regarding a suspicious person in the cul de sac. The Constables stopped and arrested him.
(3) At 11:00 PM Constable stopped and arrested a suspicious person in the 12900 block of Whittington.
Also, mid-morning a vehicle was stopped because the license plates had been involved in a crime. HPD and Constables were on scene. No additional information is currently available.
In concluding, HPD and Constables are both working to help us: we must never stop being vigilant and calling in any and all suspicious persons, incidents, etc. to both the Constables 281 463-6666 and HPD 911.
This is our neighborhood and together with law enforcement let’s takes back the streets.

A house on Holly Spring in Lakeside Forest was burglarized July 22nd around 2 to 2:30 PM. The homeowner explained that the electricity to the house was cut off and the back door was kicked in. Luckily the house alarm operated on a battery backup and the alarm sounded. The resident was not home and no one was injured. The suspects got away with a computer and did a lot of damage.
I can’t stress enough about using your alarm system if you have one.
Don't hesitate in calling the constable at 281-463-6666 if you see anything suspicious. Keep the phone number programmed in your cell phone and your regular home phone.
Security alert For Immediate Release
Recently the Walnut Bend and Lakeside areas are starting to see an increase in daytime home burglaries. I cannot emphasize enough, if you have a burglar alarm system TURN IT ON. If you don’t have one, make it look like someone is home. Leave a TV or a radio on. If you go this route, change things up with different TV’s, different radios, and different lights. The objective here is to make it look like someone is home. Lastly, the Constables Department and HPD need our help in catching these burglars. Since neither department has any idea as to a description of the individuals involved, if you see ANYTHING that does not look right call our constable at 281-463-6666 and report it. We all need to work together to put an end to these burglaries.

On April 27, 2010, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Precinct 5 deputies responded to a burglary in progress call in the 13700 block of Queensbury. Upon arrival the deputies found 2 burglars inside the home. They were apprehended and charged with burglary. Their getaway car which was parked on the street was a stolen vehicle.
This arrest and charging of the defendants was possible because an alert and watchful neighbor saw the defendants as they were kicking in the door of the burglarized home and called Precinct 5 right away, giving good clothing and physical descriptors as well as a description of their getaway car.
Thanks to the neighbor who got involved and to all of you who work with us to keep your neighborhood safe.

The vehicle in question circled the block several times, made some u-turns and finally stopped where the resident was walking. From the Security Director of Walnut Bend:
SECURITY ALERT WALNUT BEND
In November the areas to the west of Walnut Bend were plagued with daytime home burglaries. In most of the cases the method of entry was by kicking in the BACK door and removing electronics. The suspects were apprehended by the Constables in the area in connection with HPD.
Evidently they are either copy cat burglars or the original suspects are back on the street. On December 29, 2008 a house in the 10000 block of Bordley in Briargrove Park was broken into by three black males. Two large flat panel TVs and other electronics were stolen.
We have not had any incidences in Walnut Bend yet.
Please:
1. Stay alert and if you see something suspicious don’t hesitate to contact the Harris Country Constable at 281-463-6666 or HPD at 713-884-3131. The Constable will respond to a suspicious person or vehicle immediately.
2. Call 911 if you see a crime in progress.
3. Secure your home: when you leave lock your doors, leave lights on and possibly even a radio or TV so they have to question if there is someone there. Don’t forget to set your alarm when you leave – several home burglaries in the past were at homes where the alarm was in place but was not set.
4. Never leave items in your vehicle, don’t park on the street and always lock your car.
5. Please encourage your neighbors to subscribe to the security alerts that are sent from the Walnut Bend website. This is the quickest and most efficient way for the board to notify residents of security matters.
November 21, 2008
Three suspects have been taken into custody in another part of town during a failed home invasion attempt, and it is believed these suspects were involved with the Lakeside break ins. Police are still working to connect the crimes, but the car and suspects are believed to be a match. More news to follow.
