After establishment in 1969, this community in the west end of Houston's Memorial area has continued to thrive. The community contains 545 homes and sits directly next to the Westchase district with quick access to both Beltway 8, Interstate 10, and the Westpark Toll Road. Lakeside is located about 7 miles west of Houston's Galleria and Post Oak areas, and 3 miles east of the Energy Corridor. Lakeside Forest is located near Terry Hershey Park, a series of over 12 miles of hike and bike trails along Buffalo Bayou.

The Lakeside Improvement Association, originally established at the founding of the neighborhood and comprised entirely of volunteer neighborhood residents, meets monthly and oversees various aspects of the neighborhood including deed restrictions, trash pickup, and grounds repair.

The Lakeside Civic Association hosts various neighborhood-wide events and activities throughout the year for the benefit of homeowners. Key events include the 4th of July parade and the Candlelight Christmas Celebration.
